Stephens was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Stephens was employed with the Merchants & Farmers Bank of Meridian for 34 years. One who loved to talk to people and never met a stranger. She will always be remembered as a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmaw, and great grandmaw. Stephens, age 96, passed away on Saturday, Decemat the Queen City Nursing Center. The Bible says, “blessed are those that die in the Lord.” Revelation 14:13 Lester believed and shared that the Bible is true from Genesis to Revelation and that each person should first pray, then read it for themselves, asking God to give understanding. Within 30-45 minutes of the service’s conclusion, he passed away. Lester chose to participate in the service, rededicating his life to the Lord. When she brought the sacrament to him, she explained that taking the emblems of Christ blood and body was like a ‘miniature baptism’. On January 30, Lester’s aunt, Nancy Stewart, encouraged him to join in the virtual communion service. During the final three weeks of his life, through much pain and discomfort, Lester continued to share with family and friends about how he was trying to get his life together and how they should, too. Lester felt a determination to renew his connection to the Lord. Lester often talked to his sister about heaven and what things he would be doing there.

He began to call his childhood friends from church and talk to them about the Bible. He wanted to be sure that every statement and story he shared from the Bible was true. He began calling his cousins and aunts, his sister-in-law, and other church members to ask questions about the Bible to make sure he was on the right track. After that, each time she would flush the toilet, Tiffiney would say, "Uncle Lester, here it comes!"Īfter his older brother's death in July 2020, Lester seemed more urgent in his need to share with his friends and cousins about Noah's ark and other Bible stories. When his niece, Tiffiney, was six years old, Lester told her about his work at the water treatment plant. He also worked for 25 years at Avery Dennison as a lift machinist and later at Meridian Water Treatment Plant. He worked for several years as the assistant women's basketball coach at Meridian Junior College. Lester graduated from Meridian High School in 1981 and majored in Business at Meridian Junior College. Growing up, Lester loved Sabbath School, AYS, singing with the Golden Gates gospel choir, vacation bible school and playing on the Ephesus Church (Eagles) basketball team. He would often tell people he talked to about the Bible and about the love of Jesus Christ, God the Father and the Holy Spirit, lessons that stuck with him for life. She took him to church, campmeetings, and literature evangelist meetings, which he enjoyed. Lester's mother was a Bible Worker and a Literature Evangelist. Lester, at a young age, was baptized into the Ephesus Seventh-day Adventist Church of Meridian, MS, by Pastor Benjamin Brown. Lester was preceded in death by baby Diane Cook, his older brother, Woodrow Cook Jr., and grandparents Allen and Luella Matthews Maye and Humphrey and Lelia “Lila” Cook. Lester was the last of four children: Woodrow Cook Jr., Cynthia Cook, and Diane Cook, baby sister. Lester Leon Cook was born on Mato the late Mr. Due to COVID-19, everyone attending is required to wear masks and adhere to social distancing.
